- After 93 days of GoS (Government of Sudan) promise to the American Special Envoy to close the gap in humanitarian aid in Darfur after the expulsion of 13 international NGOs, conditions in IDP camps speak louder than empty promises.
This morning a woman in Abu Shouk IDP camp (near El Fasher capital of North Darfur)complaint bitterly about the worsening conditions in the camp since the expulsion of the NGOs. She said to Radio Dabanga that rain added to the problems of sheltering. A leader said the impact of the expulsion of specific NGOs in the medical care is felt by thousands of the refugees in the camp. The Leader told Radio Dabanga that the Red Cross is stretched thin and now the very sick get prescriptions but no medicine in the camp. He added that relatives of some patients who have some money they venture to buy medicine from ElFasher, while others ( the majority) take patients back to the tents in the camp without medicine and some of the patients paralyzed while others their disease developed to mental cases.
- Several farmers in Krainik got injured after they were beaten up by unknown gunmen in military uniforms. An eyewitness told Radio Dabanga that UNAMID and the local police have been informed of the incident. No further action was taken.
Comment:
Some refugees in some camps try to take advantage of the rainy season by farming some lands in the vicinity of the camps. They try to supplement some of the crops like sorghum or peanuts to help in closing the gap in the food shortage. The GoS in its plan of creating the harsh living conditions to the refugees, does tolerate any activity by the Darfuri people to break this vicious cycle of misery. The pro-GoS militias by beating those farmers in Krainik are sending clear message to the rest of the refugees and the world: Genocide in Darfur will go on.
